Book Reviews
Academic Search Premier -- Useful for finding scholarly and nonscholarly book reviews. Search hints - The book title is one of the subject headings given the record with (book) after the title, and the abstract usually says Reviews [name of book] by [name of author]. You can either search the subject headings by clicking on the green Subjects button, or simply type in unique words from the title and the author, and the word reviews.
Expanded Academic ASAP -- Useful for finding scholarly and nonscholarly book reviews. Search hints - The book title is always part of the title of the article along with (book review). In contrast to Academic Search Premier, the title is not one of the subject headings given the book. Therefore, type in unique words from the title and the author, and the phrase "book review."
LexisNexis Academic -- Useful for finding nonscholarly (newspaper and magazine) book reviews. Click on Guided News Search; then choose Arts & Sports for the first box, then Book, movie, music & play reviews in the second box to narrow specifically to reviews. However, in this subset there are only 17 sources covered, so if you don't find a review for your book, try under General News or US News in the first box for content from more newspapers and magazines.

Web of Science -- Useful for finding book reviews from scholarly journals. Click on General Search. Type in unique words from the title and the last name of the author in the box labeled Topic, then scroll down and in the Set Search Limits boxes highlight Book Review in the Document Type pull-down menu.

Foundation Directory Online Professional on-campus only! -- It provides access to three searchable databases: Foundation Search allows you to keyword search a collection of over 80,000 foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities; and Grants Search database allows you to search the brief records of over 500,000 grants awarded by foundations; and the 990 search provides search capability to the over 230,000 Forms 990 for all private and public grantmaking organizations in the Professional database. Foundation Directory Online Professional is updated on a weekly basis.
Foundation Grants to Individuals Online (GTIO) on-campus only! -- provides detailed descriptions of more than 6,000 foundation programs that fund students, artists, researchers, and other individual grantseekers.
Grants.gov - The White House Office of Management and Budget has mandated that all 26 Federal agencies post their competititve grant opportunities here to facilitate ease in locating grants as well as downloading and submitting applications. Managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the aim of this site is to eventually become the central repository for federal grant information.
Illinois Funding Source on-campus only! -- includes two powerful tools for determining who is getting grants in Illinois: FunderSource, a searchable directory of 2800+ Illinois Foundations; and who is receiving Illinois funding: GrantSource, an essential research database that indexes over $3.2 billion in grants dollars awarded by local funders.

Pew Research Center for the People and the Press -- independent opinion research group that studies attitudes toward the press, politics and public policy issues. Their web site includes surveys and survey reports, as well as data sets going back as far as 1997.
ICPSR (Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research) -- Established in 1962, ICPSR is the world's largest archive of digital social science data. UIS is an institutional member of the ICPSR.

Statistical -- large database for finding statistical
information. Power Tables covers 25,000 statistical tables
on a variety of topics, and Abstracts covers state, federal
and international statistical information published since 1970.
Statistical Abstract of the U.S -- The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States. Sources of data include the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and many other Federal agencies and private organizations.
