Faculty are invited to visit Brookens Library during its regularly scheduled hours and encouraged to utilize its electronic collection of resources on-campus and off-campus. Orientation Services
The librarians of the Brookens Library provide orientation sessions for faculty and students by arrangement. Faculty and students can also visit the Library or its Web site to gather information on services and hours. Classroom Instruction
The librarians are available to provide instruction in the classroom on research sources and techniques. Acquisitions Requests
Faculty are encouraged to submit requests for the purchase of research materials and acquisition of documents published by the U.S. government. Requests and inquiries should be sent to your library liaison or Christine Ross, Director of Collection Services. Christine can be contacted via e-mail, cmross1@uis.edu, or telephone, 217-206-8452.
Circulation Policies
Faculty have a 16 week loan period with a 6 renewal limit for circulating books. DVD and Videos circulate to faculty for 4 weeks with a 3 renewal limit. Materials designated as "reference" ordinarily do not circulate but, if needed, may be taken for a short time by arrangement. Course Reserves
Material for courses can be placed on reserve by contacting Gloria Newton Davlantis. Articles, book chapters, and other materials will be made available through the electronic reserve system and only students enrolled in the course will have access. Books , DVD/Videos, CD's, etc will be held on reserve at the circulation desk. These items can circulate for either 2 hours, 1 day, 3 day or 7 day loans as chosen by the instructor. It is helpful to give the staff 48 hours before announcing that material is on reserve.
Research Services
The librarians of Brookens Library are available to assist with the research needs of the faculty. A wide variety of research consultation services are available which include but are not limited to assistance in locating materials and performing online database or Internet searches. The Instructional Services faculty are available to provide training to you in the use of electronic resources. Online Learning Pedagogy and Technology
The staff members of the Center for Online Learning, Research and Service (COLRS) in Brookens Library are available to assist with the conceptualization, development and delivery of learning through synchronous and asynchronous online and blended formats. A wide variety of services are provided including planning; organizing; designing; selecting and implementing pedagogically sound technologies; and assessing outcomes. In addition, support is provided for research and publication in the area of online learning. Please contact the Center with any questions related to online learning services.
