Community Users
Access to the Library
Community members are invited to visit the Brookens Library during its regularly scheduled hours and to attend special events scheduled by the Library. Public Wireless Network
Brookens Library offers public wireless connectivity for community members. This service is available in the public areas within the facility. Public wireless connectivity is intended for visitors who have no formal affiliation with the University. With a wireless-enabled laptop, community members can connect to the Internet to browse the Web or send/receive e-mail using an off-campus e-mail account. The Technology Support Center can be contacted via e-mail, techsupport@uis.edu, or telephone, 217-206-6000.
Public Access Computers
Community members are welcome to use the public access computers and online research resources within the Brookens Library.
Borrowing Privileges
Community members are free to browse the collection within the Brookens Library.
To borrow books or other materials from Brookens Library, community members must have a Library card from the University of Illinois or an I-Share member library. If you do not already have a card, the Circulation Desk has information about obtaining courtesy cards. Community members can also contact the interlibrary loan department of their local public or university library. Most libraries can arrange to borrow materials from us on a community member's behalf. Reference Services
Brookens Library is glad to assist in the information gathering needs of community members. A wide variety of reference services are available which include, but are not limited to, assistance in locating materials and performing online database or Internet searches. The Instructional Services faculty are also available to provide training to you in the use of electronic resources. Friends of the Library
Friends of the Brookens Library fosters greater community awareness of its resources and supports the development of collections and services within the Library. Members receive borrowing privileges, invitations to special lectures and programs, discounts on sponsored events, and a newsletter on library-related developments.
