Access Services
Access Services combines the departments of Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and Reserves. Located on level 2 of Brookens Library, Access Services is where patrons come to charge items owned by our library and to request items from other libraries (either through the I-Share (CARLI) library consortium of Illinois libraries, or through Interlibrary Loan which can obtain items from global libraries). Reserve items are also processed and held at the Access Services desk. Professors wishing to reserve items for their courses (both paper and electronic) are encouraged to contact us with procedure and policy questions. Students will find reserve items at the desk and may use them with their valid UIS I-card. All patron records (My Account in PrairieCat) are created and maintained by Access Services, and any inquiries should be directed to this department.

Archives, Illinois Regional Archives Depository, and Special Collections
Archives/Special Collections supports and promotes the research use of primary source materials. Its goal is to locate, acquire, preserve, and make available to the public the most significant historical records of Sangamon State University (1969-1995) and the University of Illinois at Springfield as well as regional history records and manuscripts whose research strengths support the University's curriculum. As a member of the Illinois Regional Archives Depository System (IRAD), administered by the Illinois Secretary of State/Illinois State Archives, UIS Archives/Special Collections serves as one of seven depositories in the state for local government records. Special Collections includes non-circulating library material such as rare, valuable, and fragile books and periodicals.

Library Instructional Services Program
Also known as the Reference Department. The library faculty provide individualized instruction at the Information Desk, or via e-mail or telephone; offer workshops for specific courses; and teach a two credit-hour course, UNI 401 Library Research Methods. Each degree program at UIS has a library liaison to develop the collection in support of the program's particular information needs. Assistance in finding and using library materials and services is available at the Information Desk on Level 2. The library faculty work closely with individual classes, other faculty members, and students to provide instruction in the selection and use of both print and electronic sources. This encompasses working with the departmental faculty to develop the library collection, teaching instructional workshops, providing individual consultations with students, and in general being the program's contact person in the library. Instructional workshops are conducted for classes or groups upon request. These workshops are designed to assist participants in identifying and evaluating materials and to develop search strategies for a particular subject area. Instructors or students wishing to arrange a workshop should call 206-6633 or contact the library liaison for their department.
