Please turn your cell phones off or set to vibrate only while you are in the Library.
Over the past year, we've had an increasing number of complaints about noise in the library, particularly noise from cell phone conversations and loud ring tones. Most of our users expect the library to be a relatively quiet place where they can study and do their research. They find cell phone conversations and ring tones especially disruptive.
Therefore, effective 2 April 2007, we request that library users turn off their cell phones or put them on the vibrate setting while using the public areas of the library. Text messaging is permitted in the library.
Cell phones may be used in the MacDonald Lounge and the main stairway lounges on levels 2, 3, and 4.
In addition, we request that users respect the quiet study areas on stack levels 3 and 4. Collaborative work groups are welcome on the main level of the library and in the stairway lounges or group study rooms on levels 2, 3, and 4.
